The Washington Football Team Is Polling Fans on a New Name, and the Choices Are . . . Interesting
The Washington Football Team is still searching for a permanent name . . . even if that DOES end up being “The Washington Football Team.”
According to local reporters and season ticket holders, the team is sending out surveys and asking fans to weigh-in on potential names . . . and they’re casting a VERY wide net. In fact, fans are getting DIFFERENT lists of choices.
The team’s president recently said he doesn’t think “anything is off the table” . . . except “Redskins,” I assume . . . as long as the name isn’t “messy or embarrassing.” But some of the options DO seem embarrassing.
In no particular order, they include:
1. The Washington Aces
2. The First City Football Club (FCFC)
3. The Washington Archers
4. The Washington Beacons
5. The Washington Belters
6. The Washington Redtails
7. The Washington Razorbacks
8. The Washington Defenders
9. The Washington Football Team
10. The Washington Griffins
11. The Washington Warriors (It’s risky to go with something “new,” but it’s also confusing to choose a name being used by a pro team in another sport.)
12. The Washington Armada
13. The Washington Rising
14. The Washington Swifts (They’d also threaten to write songs about any players who spurn them in free agency.)
15. The Washington Commanders
16. The Washington Pilots
17. The Washington Rubies (I don’t think I get this one.)
18. The Washington Renegades
19. The Washington D.C. Football Club (DCFC)
20. The Washington Monarchs
21. The Washington Presidents (This one would be embarrassing.)
22. The Washington Wild Hogs
23. The Washington Riders
24. The Washington Capital City Football Club (CCFC) (???)
25. The Washington Redwolves
26. The Washington Aviators
27. The Washington Wayfarers (I bought a shower curtain rod at Wayfair.)
28. The Washington Ambassadors
29. The Washington 32 FC (W32)
30. The Washington Guardians
31. The Washington Brigade
32. The Washington Demon Cats (This one is AWESOME. However, I did think it said “Democrats” at first, which could be a problem.)
33. The Washington Royals (“Royals” seems a little antithetical for D.C.)
34. The Washington Majors
35. The Washington Icons (Okay, they officially cast the net TOO wide.)
36. The Washington Anchors
