The President of the Hot Dog Council Says No One Over 18 Should Be Using Ketchup
If you put ketchup on your hot dogs yesterday, the president of the National Hot Dog and Sausage Council would like a word . . .
Yes, it’s a real thing, and he’s a real guy. His name is Eric Mittenthal. In an interview for the Fourth, he told “Fox News” that no one over the age of 18 should be putting ketchup on hot dogs.
Quote, “If you can vote, it’s time for your taste buds to vote for a hot dog without ketchup.” He said “the sweetness is just not the ideal match,” and suggested mustard, onions, and sauerkraut instead.
This isn’t the first time he’s taken a stance. Back in 2021, he said “any hot dog is delicious . . . except for [hot dogs] with ketchup.”
If you disagree, you’re not alone. A poll for the Fourth asked people what’s better on a dog, ketchup or mustard. 33% said mustard . . . 25% said ketchup . . . and 32% like both equally.
It also asked the age-old question, “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” 41% of Americans say yes.
