The 10 Worst Movies to Win the Best Picture Oscar

Oscar voters don’t always get it right.  To be frank, some pretty bad movies have won Best Picture.  And these are the 10 worst, according to the AUDIENCE scores on RottenTomatoes.com:

1.  “The Broadway Melody”,  1929.  20%

2.  “Cimarron”,  1931.  25%

3.  “Cavalcade”,  1933.  26%

4.  “The Great Ziegfeld”,  1936.  50%

5.  “The Greatest Show on Earth”,  1952.  53%

6.  “Around the World in 80 Days”,  1956.  57%

7.  “Tom Jones”,  1963.  58%

8.  (tie)  “Titanic”,  1997.  69%

8.  (tie)  “Rocky”,  1976.  69%

10.  “The Shape of Water”,  2017.  72%.

I have to admit, I’m shocked to see “Rocky” with such a low audience score.  Especially given its 91% critics’ score.

I was also surprised that “Crash” didn’t make the list, because it’s pretty universally considered one of the least-deserving Best Picture winners.  But it does have an 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, so it was too “good” to make the Top 10.  Still, you’ll find very few people who believe it should have beaten “Brokeback Mountain” in 2006.
