Popular Sayings . . . That Are Totally B.S.

You know those sayings you’ve heard a MILLION times . . . and you wonder why people keep saying them because they aren’t true?

There’s a thread online where people are talking about popular sayings that are actually B.S. . . . and there are some good ones.  The highlights include:

“Money doesn’t buy happiness.”

“Time heals all wounds.”

“Cheaters never win.”

“What goes around, comes around.”

“Good things come to those who wait.”

“Whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

“Out of sight, out of mind.”

“The early bird gets the worm.”

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

“There are plenty of fish in the sea.”

“Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.”

“Better safe than sorry.”

And finally, “‘I’ before ‘E,’ except after ‘C.'”  (???)

(To me, a lot of the objections above sound like SOUR GRAPES, and the intent is usually meant to convey a POSITIVE, MOTIVATING message rather than a cynical one.)

(But things DON’T always work out for the best.  So if you use cheesy sayings like this to build yourself up to be reliant on the world being fair . . . remember this one:  “[POO] HAPPENS.”)
