Olivia Newton-John Lost Her Battle with Cancer
Olivia Newton-John died yesterday morning. No cause of death was given, but it’s a safe bet she lost her battle with cancer. She was 73 years old. Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992.
After 25 years in remission, she announced in 2017 that it had spread to her lower back.
Olivia was born in England, but raised in Melbourne, Australia.
She already had a successful music career going, but it was the 1978 movie “Grease” that took her to the next level. Her two duets with co-star John Travolta, “You’re the One That I Want” and “Summer Nights”, are classics to this day . . . along with the solo track “Hopelessly Devoted to You”.
In 1980, she starred in the musical “Xanadu”, which was NOT well received by critics or audiences. But she still got three more hits out of it: “Magic”, “Suddenly”, and the title track.
Her other hits include the pre-“Grease” singles, “I Honestly Love You” and “Have You Never Been Mellow”. . . along with the classic ’80s jam “Physical”.
She also raised hundreds of millions of dollars through the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne.
She is survived by her husband John Easterling and a daughter, Chloe Lattanzi.
Travolta paid tribute to Olivia on Instagram, saying, quote, “My dearest Olivia, you made all of our lives so much better.
“Your impact was incredible. I love you so much. We will see you down the road and we will all be together again. Yours from the first moment I saw you and forever! Your Danny, your John!”
