Homegrown Recap: YOU are my Superhero!

  • It’s National Superhero Day!  A Ranker.com poll with over 130,000 voters found Spider-Man is now our favorite superhero.  Then it’s Batman, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Deadpool.  Superman somehow missed the top ten in 11th place. (Maybe because no one’s made a GOOD Superman movie in 40 years.)

National Superhero Day was created by Marvel in 1995.  It’s about celebrating comic book characters, but also REAL-LIFE superheroes who make the world a better place.

  • A couple days ago Luke Combs covered “Buy Dirt” by Jordan DavisNow Jordan is covering Luke’s current single “Doin’ This” with Luke commenting “Come on with it! Sing it Buddy!!”Luke’s new album, Growin’ Up, is set to come out in just a couple of months – is there a connection?

  • Cole Swindell and Lainey Wilson just went No. 1 with their fiery duet “Never Say Never.” The chart-topper is Swindell’s 11th and Wilson’s second No. 1.

  • Chris Stapleton’s “A Concert for Kentucky” stadium show raised over $1 million for the Outlaw State of Kind Hometown Fund. The sold out event was the first concert ever held at the University of Kentucky’s Kroger Field and featured performances by Stapleton along with Willie Nelson and Family, Sheryl Crow and Madeline Edwards.

  • Thinking of running to the grocery store to grab a box of chocolates and flowers for mom for Mother’s Day? Well, it may NOT be what she wants. A recent poll shows that moms really like handmade or homemade gifts. So make it a HOMEGROWN Mother’s Day.

  • Country Music Calendar Spotlight:

1973
Charlie Rich scored his first #1 on the Billboard country chart with “Behind Closed Doors”, which spent 20 weeks on this chart, and also became a crossover hit on the pop charts. The song earned awards for Song of the Year (for writer Kenny O’Dell) and Single of the Year (for Rich) from both the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music, and Rich also received a Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. In 2003, it ranked #9 in CMT’s 100 Greatest Songs in Country Music.

  • It’s kind of amazing this has never been done before . . . maybe because it can’t possibly be good.  Or can it? Tropicana just announced they’ve created the first breakfast cereal that you’re supposed to pour ORANGE JUICE on instead of milk. It’s called Tropicana Crunch.  They say it’s a “honey and almond” cereal that’s “granola-style,” because flakes would get too soggy too fast.  In the picture they posted, it kind of looks like Honey Bunches of Oats without the corn flakey bits.
