Father’s Day Odds and Ends: Surveys, Google Trends, and Studies

In honor of Father’s Day, we ventured onto the internet to come up with some fun facts, stats, and studies.  Here’s a rundown . . .

1.  According to Google Trends, the most-searched “Father’s Day” sales are:  Grills . . . tools . . . TVs . . . and then golfing and fishing equipment.

The most-searched “Father’s Day” recipes are:  Potato salad . . . egg salad . . . sourdough bread . . . French toast . . . and chocolate cake.

2.  Dads aren’t going to hurt your feelings.  When asked, “If you don’t like a gift from your children, do you tell them you don’t like it . . . or pretend to like it?”  87% of dads say they’d pretend to like it.  Only 6% say they’d admit they didn’t.

7% say “it depends,” which may be the situations when you bought them something they DID want . . . but they want or need a different size, style, or brand.  So maybe they’d say they’re returning it to get another version.

3.  On average, dads who WOULD want a gift expect their significant other to spend $76 . . . and their child to spend $33.

4.  If you’re REALLY adventurous, you could consider moving your father to a place that APPRECIATES them more.  (???)

WalletHub has a list of the best states for working dads, and the top five are:  Massachusetts . . . Washington D.C., which they included . . . Connecticut . . . New Jersey . . . and Minnesota.

On the other end, the bottom five are:  New Mexico . . . West Virginia . . . Mississippi . . . Nevada . . .  and Oklahoma.

They considered stuff like:  Average working hours for men . . . men’s life expectancy . . . unemployment rates for dads with young kids . . . income . . . insurance . . . and child care costs.
