Each State’s Favorite Boozy Drink to Order on a Plane
Something about hurtling through the sky at 500 miles an hour puts us on edge. So do you like to have a drink or two when you fly? (Or 10, and then start a drunken brawl?)
The site Upgraded Points polled more than 2,000 people across the U.S. to find each state’s go-to drink order on airplanes.
#1 overall is water, followed closely by soda. So plenty of us DON’T drink up there. But here are the most popular adult beverages we order on planes . . .
1. Vodka cocktails are the top choice in 11 states.
2. Whiskey cocktails, also 11.
3. Wine, 11 states. Seven said white. Arizona, New Jersey, Delaware, and Kentucky prefer red.
4. Mimosas, seven states.
5. Bloody Marys, two. Kansas and Utah.
6. Hard seltzer, two states. California and Tennessee. (Did they not include beer as a choice? It didn’t rank first anywhere.)
They also looked at the top snacks we order, and chips are #1 by far. Then it’s pretzels . . . peanuts if your flight has them . . . cookies . . . and Nebraska is the only state where trail mix is #1.
Overall, the most popular order on planes is a bag of chips and a bottle of water.
Last stat: If the stranger next to you is sleeping and the drink cart is coming through, should you wake them up? Only 20% of people said they’d be annoyed if someone woke them up.
(Six states weren’t included in the results, because not enough people answered: Alaska, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming.)
