22% of Americans Haven’t Even Cracked a Book in Over a Year

I like that partial credit counts here, because it makes me feel like a smart person:  Someone polled 1,000 Americans and asked how many books they’ve read in the past year . . . not finished, just read ANY part off.

That means even reading the first chapter . . . or first page . . . counts as “one book.”  And e-books and audiobooks count too.

So by those rules, how many books have YOU read in the past 12 months?  Almost one in four Americans still say ZERO.  (???)

22% of us haven’t even cracked a book in over a year.  And another 10% said they’ve only read one, or started one.

36% said somewhere between two and five books . . . 8% said six to ten . . . and 19% said more than that.

33% claimed that when they do start a book, they always finish it.  1% said they “never” finish books.

The poll also found the most popular types of books are mystery or crime . . . history books . . . biographies or memoirs . . . religious texts . . . and thrillers.  Poetry books ranked last.
